Questions to ask college coaches
on your first visit
When going on a college visit, first thank the coach for the opportunity to visit and taking the time to talk with you. Know if the school ha a great season and what their record was. Also know how many players are graduating next year and what positions they play. This gives you an idea of what they are looking for, also if you will have a chance of playing freshmen year.
1. How many days a week do they practice during the season?
2. How many time a week do they lift during the season?
3. How often do they practice during the off season?
4. Do they play in any tournaments during the off season?
5. Do they have a summer conditioning program?
6. Do they have to tryout every year?
7. Do they room with field hockey players?
8. Do they have a team advisor during the season?
9. Are games scheduled mostly on weekends? Do they play any weekday games?
10. If they play weekday games do they usually miss classes or are they usually scheduled after all classes?
2nd visit questions:
1. Would I be able to spend a day with a team player and visit some of your classes?
2. Will I be able to meet with an admissions counselor?
3. Where am I in your recruiting list?
4. Should I submit transcripts and SAT scores for an early read with admissions?
5. Are you interested in me applying early decision?
6. Will you as a coach be able to support me with financial aide? What is the next step?
